Hey Loves,
This email is a little detour from my usual women’s empowerment content, but it’s something that has been on my heart, and I feel called to share it with you. In times like these, when the world feels increasingly chaotic and uncertain, I find myself reflecting deeply on how we navigate these challenges together. How do we stay hopeful? How do we ground ourselves in resilience and purpose when the news seems filled with despair?
I’ve poured those thoughts into the message below, and I hope it resonates with you. While it may not directly focus on empowerment in the way I usually write, I believe that finding hope and meaning in chaos is an essential part of our strength, both as individuals and as a community.
We are living in chaotic times. Each day seems to bring more unsettling news—political division, ecological crises, economic uncertainty, and systemic challenges that shake the very foundations of our lives. The pace of change is relentless, and the world feels increasingly unpredictable. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, to question how we can possibly stay hopeful amidst so much upheaval.
But this chaos, as disorienting as it is, also holds an opportunity. Visionaries like Joanna Macy remind us that we are living through what she calls The Great Turning, a pivotal moment in history when humanity is being called to shift from destructive patterns toward life-sustaining ways of being. It is a time of profound transformation, where we have the opportunity to reimagine how we live, connect, and contribute to the world.
The Great Turning invites us to ask ourselves: How do we navigate this uncertainty? How do we stay grounded, resilient, and hopeful when everything around us feels like it’s shifting? How do we find meaning and purpose in a world that often feels out of control?
First, we must remember that we are not alone. These challenges are collective, and the strength we find in each other can be a guiding light through the storm. We can anchor ourselves in connection—with our families, our communities, and the natural world. These relationships remind us of what truly matters and help us hold steady amidst the chaos.
Second, we can turn inward and focus on the things we can control: our mindset, our choices, and our actions. When the world feels uncertain, creating small, intentional practices in our daily lives—moments of stillness, gratitude, and kindness—can help us reclaim a sense of stability and peace. These practices are not a way to ignore the chaos but a way to build resilience and move forward with clarity.
Finally, we can hold onto hope. Hope is not naive; it is an act of courage. It is choosing to believe in the possibility of something better, even when the path forward is unclear. Hope fuels action. It inspires us to dream of new ways of being, to create systems rooted in love and connection, and to contribute to a future that reflects our deepest values.
As Joanna Macy teaches, The Great Turning is not a passive moment; it is an active process. It requires us to engage with the world’s challenges with both courage and compassion. It asks us to hold space for grief while daring to envision what is possible. It is the work of all of us, weaving together individual actions into a collective transformation.
This is not easy work, but it is necessary. The chaos may feel overwhelming, but within it lies the potential for transformation. Each of us has a role to play in navigating these times, in choosing compassion over despair, and in taking small steps toward a better world.
So, I invite you to reflect on this moment. What anchors you when the world feels chaotic? How can you cultivate hope, even in small ways? How can you be a source of steadiness and care for those around you?
We may be living in uncertain times, but we are in this together. Let us support each other, hold onto hope, and find the courage to navigate this chaos with resilience and heart. The Great Turning is happening now, and together, we can be part of this extraordinary shift.
With love and solidarity,
Dee
